Who Qualifies For Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits?

Uncategorized

In order to be entitled to Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits, you must be found disabled and you must have earned the minimum number of credits called quarters of coverage, from work covered under the Social Security System. The required number of quarters of coverage depends on your age at the time you become disabled.

In addition to the total number of work credits, you must have worked and paid into the Social Security system, five of the 10 years immediately preceding the date you became disabled. A very young worker, a person 24 years of age or younger, whose work history is limited, may qualify for benefits with fewer quarters of coverage.
